Pinterest releases 'Guided Search'

- A visual discovery tool for mobile devices

Sometimes we are looking for things even if we don't know what exactly that is. Pinterest wants to help us with that problem.

Pinterest's solution: 'Guided Search'.

It's a predictive search engine powered by social curation.
“Search until now has been based on information retrieval, factual questions, factual answers,” Silbermann said.
“At Pinterest we want to take a step back and think what if it was different. Pinterest after all is about discovering things that you didn’t even know are out there. And so we decided let’s build a search engine that’s more about exploration, that’s more aboutdiscovery, that’s more about teaching about your tastes and giving you options to explore than it is about giving you an ordered list.”

It's a mobile only product, because 75% of Pinterest usage is on mobile devices.

Therefor they want to focus on mobile development.

A desktop version will come later.

“We are trying to provide a recommendation on every single object in the world, whether it’s a beautiful photo, whether it’s a workout routine, whether it’s an article, we want to help you find things that are relevant to you.”

Microsoft joins the smartwatch game

A challenge for Samsung, Apple and Google. The U.S. Patent Office has released an application from the software maker for a smartwatch design.
The application was already filed in 2012, but released the week of the sixth may '14.

The plans are about a wristwatch that can be used as a fitness tracker and also to play music. It's also a phone and messaging device.

Smartwatches are huge today. The startup Pebble says it sold 400 000 smartwatches last year. We don't know if Microsoft will release the device to the public. We hope so!

Anyway, this is not the first time for Microsoft. In 2004 they introduced devices made in partnership with famous watchmakers (for example Fossil, Suunto and Citizen).
They raised 'SPOT': a technology platform. Smart Personal Objects Technology.

Talk to your fridge, oven and washing machine

Sounds cool, isn't it?

Or insane?

If you buy a new LG’s fridge, oven or washing machine you can talk to the devices if you use the Line’s messaging app !

Last year LG spread some incredible news. They said they developed a new service that lets their customers chat with the LG devices by using their smartphone.

And now this is available! Like many cool technologic stuff, you can only buy it in Asia.

It's only available in LG's home market: Korea.

I hear you thinking: "Okay, but what is this
exactly?"
Well, one cool thing is the fridge with
a camera. Remember the feeling when your
in the supermarket and you don't know what
to buy because you forgot to look in the fridge?

LG solved this problem !

The camera sends you photos of the food
and drinks in it, so you know what items
you need to buy.

Why would you buy a washing machine that can respond your chat messages?

Because you don't have to be at home to put it on. When you come home after a long day at the office, the laundry is done.

But then... a microwave/oven with NFC (Near Field Communication) and WiFi ?
How the hell could that be useful?

I'll tell you: he suggests recipes. He even tells you what ingredients & settings you need for specific dishes.

Ofcourse this is amazing, but a lot of people would say it's unuseful. I'm not sure about that. It's not something you really need. But it's absolutely some cool stuff to own.
And very unique. Watch the video! (Warning: you might go crazy)

You can do this all by using chat sessions on Line. Line is a popular messaging app, more than 400 million people registered on it.  LG says that HomeChat is like chatting with a close friend. The communication is very familiar indeed.
There's also a 'Quick Button' that pulls up the features you use the most.

An other nice advantage is that you can use the app while you are on the road, or even on vacation.

And Line wouldn't be Line without the famous stickers. HomeChat knows all about it!

Are u disappointed that it's only available in Korea?
Then I'm sure I have some good news for you.
LG is planning an introduction of this great app to other countries, also the US. But there's not yet a timeframe for when this will happen.
